Information after you have purchased your Pointe Shoes

  • Your teacher is not always available to come with you to your Pointe Shoe fitting; they will however wish to see the shoes before you have your lesson. Please take the shoes to your teacher to have them looked at before you sew on your ribbons, elastics and attach any suede tips or before they are darned..

  • Once your teacher has looked at your shoes and is happy with them, mark them left and right to ensure that they go on the same foot for every lesson as your shoes will mould to your feet.

  • Do not allow anyone else to wear your shoes or even just to try them on. This is dangerous as they do not have the strength in their ankles to support their body weight. They may also break them if the feet are too strong.

  • When breaking in your Pointe Shoes this needs to be done correctly (we have a video on our Facebook page on howto break in Pointe Shoes)

  • Do not bang your Pointe Shoes in doors etc to break them in, this damages the shoes, breaks them in, at the incorrect place and they will not last as long.

  • Our suppliers of Pointe Shoes advise that Pointe Shoes have a “dance life” in them of 4 – 12 hours. The life of Pointe Shoe varies from dancer to dancer and many factors such as the dancer’s strength etc, determine how long they last. We do suggest that if you are still wearing your shoes after 6 months you have them checked to ensure that they are still fitting correctly.

  • Do not leave any padding in your shoes once you have finished dancing. IE ouch pouches, inlays, animal wool, spacers, big tips etc.

  • Do not store your Pointe Shoes inside of each other once you have danced in them. They need to be stored next to each other loosely in a breathable bag and not in the bag they are sold in.

  • Do not fold the Pointe Shoe over on the heel and wrap the ribbon around them

  • Once you have danced in them they need to be left out on your dressing table to dry out for at least 24 hours before being put back in your bag

  • Do not attempt to clean your Pointe Shoes with water. This will damage the box.

  • Always ensure that you are standing fully ‘en Pointe’ to prevent pressure on the back of the shoe. If you do not stand correctly on your pointe shoes this will cause pressure on the sole of the Pointe Shoes and cause them to break.

  • On our Facebook page we have a video of how to attach your suede tips and ribbons.
